
Stamp Out Hunger Annual Food Drive Held Saturday, May 9 - The Nation's Largest One-Day Food Drive. Mount Pleasant, MI - Postal Service employees will step up to Stamp Out Hunger — an annual food drive to help feed those in need — on Saturday, May 9, 2026 Last year The Mount Pleasant Post Office collected 8,750 pounds of food for the local pantries and we are hoping to contribute more this year to our local area. – Postmaster Brent Fisher. To participate, USPS customers are asked to fill a bag with healthy, nonperishable food items and place it by their mailbox for mail carriers to pick up. During the drive, postal employees collect the food and donate it to local food banks and pantries. Participation is voluntary. Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest one-day food drive, with 1.82 billion pounds of food collected since it began in 1993. The National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States. More than 34 million Americans, including 9 million children, experience food insecurity and rely on food donations. This drive is one way you can help those in your own city or town who need help. Food Drive TIPS WHAT TO GIVE: Most-wanted foods include: • Canned meats (tuna, chicken, salmon) • Canned and boxed meals (soup, chili, stew, macaroni, and cheese) • Canned or dried beans and peas (black, pinto, lentils) • Pasta, rice cereal • Canned fruits • 100 percent fruit juice (canned, plastic or boxed) • Canned vegetables • Cooking oil • Boxed cooking mixes (pancake, breads) WHAT NOT TO GIVE: • Rusty or unlabeled cans • Glass containers • Perishable items • Homemade items • No expired items • Noncommercial canned or packaged items • Alcoholic beverages or mixes or soda • Open or used items
